La Gran Maura and Tops With Little Cut-Outs Around the Nipples

Carmen Maura, legendary Spanish actress, who I met through a mutual friend was a total babe who did daring and inspirational things like play transgendered characters and wear tops that have little circular cut-outs around the nipples. Actually, this top, made of a thick yellow knit fabric, had shear black gauze sewn into the cut-outs, very sexy; I can’t find a photo online. I’m probably not trying hard enough. Or I don’t have a good enough vocab to figure out how to search for this on the big corp. search engine.
At any rate, I watched “La Ley del Deseo” last night, a super gay Almódovar film from 1987. Maura, a bio-lady, plays the sister of the main character. The plot doesn’t center around her, but it’s really all about her. You know what I mean. Or maybe she just steals the show with her casual fabulosity. But, man, that shirt! It was spectacular. And her portrayal of this character is really so subtle; she’s not over-the-top. She’s not obviously a man dressed up as a woman (and of course, Carmen is and has always been a female, so that might have a lot to do with it). I think what I’m getting at is that the film is worth watching (I like to emphasize that the sex scenes are classy, so I think the NC-17 rating is just because there’s discussion of childhood sexual abuse, boy on boy action, full frontal, and a reaching for the lube shot. That’s all.) For the clothes, it’s worth watching for the clothes. Unless you’re not into the clothes. For you: it’s just a rad, artsy, foreign film. Of course, if that doesn’t do it for you, then it’s worth watching for the sex.
* One of the best things about the interweb and all the fancy technology, is that I can see what “search terms” make my page thingy show up and get clicked on…I really just wrote this thing so I could intercept some of the folks looking for the most popular thing that folks use the interweb for. You know.
** In order to avoid the complex discussion of terminology and definition, above I use the word used in the film: transexual. It’s important to remember that this film was made in a different country, in a different language over twenty years ago. Furthermore, no attempt is made to fully define this term. Instead, the viewer is left to make her own interpretations for the images on the screen and discussions among characters.
