I just stumbled upon an website showcasing some vintage knitting patterns from a Red Cross manual entitled “Warm Hand Knits for Service Men”, dated 1940. I’m such a kook about vintage, utilitarian tools and garments, so I’m acutually really excited to recreate a few of these drab and bulky costumes. But in my defense, I’ve always found that army surplus woolies are far better for being a bike messenger than any high tech modern substitute!

And here’s a link to instructions for making something: a women’s sweater vest.
